The mansion was built for the renowned Russian painter and theatrical artist Ignaty Nivinsky. From 1904 to 1920, Nivinsky worked with leading architects, designing buildings such as the Skating Society Pavilion, Lenin's Mausoleum, the Gavriil Tarasov Mansion, the Knights' House on Arbat, and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. He also organized the centennial celebration of the Patriotic War and collaborated with theater director Yevgeny Vakhtangov. From the middle of the 1920s to 1933, the artist set up his workshop in the mansion and worked on etchings. The building is now listed as a cultural heritage site.
